A stem on a BMX is important because it makes the connection between the bar and the fork. It is a part that defines the inclination and the height of the bar. Indeed, on a top load stem (bar is fixed on the top of the stem), the bar will be higher than on a front load stem where it fixed on the front of the stem. There are even Up load stems which raise the bar more than a top load stem. There are also few length of BMX stems.
On a stem, there are 6 bolts which are tightened with a 6mm allen key.
